DIY Moss Letter Tutorial

Hey everyone! This is Rachel and Ali, we are the girls behind The Wood Connection blog. Today we are going to show you a tutorial for the moss monograms we made for Fresh Living on Channel 2 last week.

We first saw these letters at Pottery Barn but aughhh they were $80 bucks!
We knew we could make them for a lot less.

We started by taking our new monogram letters that we sell for $5.95 in
our store as well as matted moss that we have started carrying for $12.95.
You will also need a hot glue gun, scissors and green paint.
Start by painting the front and sides of your letter.
We didn’t bother to paint the back because it won’t be showing.

Next, you’ll trace an outline of the letter adding a 1”-2” border and cut it out. The moss mat is really easy to cut but it can be a little messy. Don’t worry about your cutting being perfect because the whole letter is going to get a haircut at the end.

Now, you’ll start gluing down the moss. It’s best to work in small sections.
Spread out your hot glue over an area of a couple inches and pat the moss down.

When you’re done it should look like this.

After the entire front is glued down, you’ll work on the sides. Remember the bubble effect we did when tracing? You should have that extra inch or so to cover the sides. In areas where there are curves and angles you will want to cut the moss so it can be stretched to cover the sides more easily.
You won’t notice the small incisions.

Once everything is covered you’ll give the back and sides a good trim.

And voila! You’re done! These letters can go just about anywhere. They make cute door hangs, can sit on a shelf, or hang on the wall. They are darling with scrapbook paper- you can see a tutorial for paper here.
