Wood Connection supply list:
Two 9 inch candlesticks
2 round bases
2 large finials
wood glue
fancy wood tag (for tracing)
paper
ribbon
I started by gluing the candlesticks to the wood bases.
Next I glued the finials to the top of each candlestick.
This glue is amazing! It dries fast too!
I painted one coat of black then 4 coats of a gloss white acrylic paint.
Because I painted the black first, any spot I sanded shows the black through,
giving it a great distressed look! I used a nail file for more control.
Next I made the banner. I traced this adorable wood
tag onto some cute paper and cut them out.
I used my Silhouette to cut the words "Be Mine," then inked the edges,
and strung them together using bakers twine and jute.
For the hearts, I painted the edges white, then traced, cut, and glued some paper
on them. (Using the wood glue, check out this paper to wood tutorial. )
I inked all the edges on these too! For the big heart, I just wrapped some bakers twine around it.
For the little hearts, I drilled a little hole in each one, then strung them with more bakers twine and hung them on one of the candlesticks.
One of the best parts about this project is I can use it even after Valentines Day! The paper is double sided good quality cardstock. I loved the other side of this Valentine paper, so I just flipped the banner around and used the backside too! I also changed the bakers twine to yellow.

ReplyDeleteThis is darling! Did the candle sticks come from woodconnection?
ReplyDeleteI need to get to the Wood Connection; I think I'm missing out on some absolutely delightful projects!
ReplyDeleteHow do the candlesticks hold up to the banners weight?
ReplyDeleteThey hold up great! The banner pieces are traced onto paper so there is hardly any weight. If you wanted to do wood banners pieces it probably wouldn't stand.
