I started by sanding the frame around the edges. Then I painted the face of the frame with the lightest color. The colors I chose were White and Empire Gold. I only painted the face of the frame because I wanted the edges to be gold.
Next, using a pencil and a ruler I drew a grid on my frame so that when I created my chevron stripes they would be the same size and angle. I found it easier to find the middle and work my way out to the edges.
Then I used masking tape and created my chevron pattern how I wanted it to be. I went from the corner of one square diagonally across to the opposite corner of the square 2 over and down. Make sure that you really press the edges of the tape down good. So you don't get much bleeding under the tape. After I finished taping my lines I went back and erased my pencil marks where I could so I didn't have to do so many coats to cover up the pencil marks.
Next I painted a couple of coats over the top with the Empire Gold (sorry I forgot to take a picture). And then when it was dry I peeled off the tape.
I then went over and erased the pencil marks leftover on my white stripes. And did any touch-ups that needed to be done along the stripes or to cover any remaining pencil lines.
And there you go! A super fun and funky frame to display pictures and add some flare to those gallery walls!
Wow Shanna, YOU ARE A GENIOUS!!!!!
