Print Mints Guest Post

Hi everyone, my name is Blakely from Print Mints and I am so excited to be guest posting for The Wood Connection today! I love creating new things for my cute little house and I find most of my projects at the Wood Connection. They always have the best ideas and every time I stop by their store, I find something new that I want make! I have been eyeing their very cute frames for a while and they come in all different sizes and shapes and I couldn’t resist any longer! I have a fun project from the Wood Connection for you to do and here is how I made it:

What you’ll need:
One of these fun frames {I went with the 8x10}
Paint {I used Black & Tahiti Blue. Optional: you can also use their sugar coating glitter for a fun texture as well}
Paintbrush
Ribbon
Scrapbook Paper {the wood co. has the absolute best scrapbook paper!}
A heart punch
Glue Dots
Sand paper
Vinyl Lettering

Now this is my favorite part. You will also need some old pages from books, magazines, a map or other documents to punch out hearts of. My favorites are these vintage post cards I found with maps on them. I was really looking forward to using them in a project and this couldn’t have been more perfect for them!
First you want to use your heart punch to cut out hearts from the scrapbook paper, and the other items you have chosen to use. With the book pages, I found words that described my husband Spencer, places we have been and other things that we have done together. I found one that had the date of the 19th on it which is the day we got married, one that said Mexico which is where we honeymooned and a few others. I also found words like YOU and ME from magazines and my favorites are the destinations I found in the post cards. Spencer is from California and we also got married there so one is of San Diego and one is of Bakersfield. I also found one of Idaho which is where I went to school and one of Utah where we live now. I also added in some of the very cute scrapbook paper I found at Wood Co to mix it up!

I then used a black piece of very thick cardstock and arranged the hearts and where I would like them to go. I then used some glue dots to secure them to cardstock paper.
Next, I painted the frame. I chose black but then decided to add some bright turquoise blue to the inner part of the frame to give it some color. I would recommend doing two coats of paint. Once the frame is dry, you can always sand the frame to give it that distressed feel. I love that look however I did not do it on this particular project.
I then added some ribbon that matched the blue and grey theme I was going for. You can really be creative with ribbon and add it anywhere on the frame!
I chose to go vertically on the frame and to tie the ribbon into a bow on the top left-hand side.
I then chose some vinyl and since I was going with a hearts theme, I chose the word Love. I added the vinyl to the lower right side of the frame using transfer paper. A monogram would also be perfect on this type of project!
That is it! This is a simple project and it was so much fun to make. Now I just need to decide where to hang it!
The Wood Connection has been so generous and is offering one of my readers a $25 gift card! Visit my site at printmints.blogspot.com and fill out the contest form by completing all of the entry requirements and I will pick a winner on Friday morning. Good luck and thanks for reading!
