Tutorial Tuesday: Burlap Flower

Hey Crafters! Rachel here for another Tutorial Tuesday post for you. Today I’m going to show you how to make the burlap flowers we have made that go on the grapevine wreath in our cedar Joy letters. They are so cute! And super easy to make!

Start by deciding how wide you want your flowers to be and find a circle shape around your house to trace onto a piece of paper and cut it out. You could use a cup, coaster, spice bottle… almost anything.  You could even free hand a circle. The one I’ve made here is 1 ½” wide.

Using 1 yard of burlap ribbon, tie a knot at one at one end of the ribbon and cut off any left over. Using hot glue, glue the knot to the center of the paper circle and start wrapping the ribbon around the knot.
When you’re almost halfway covering the circle start to twist the ribbon and continue to glue down. Finish the process until the ribbon runs out or covers the paper circle. My one yard of ribbon worked perfectly for covering my 1 ½” circle. When you reach the end of the ribbon simply add hot glue to the end and stick it to the side of the flower. Add hot glue to the back of the flower and stick onto your wreath.

To make the leaf, take 3” of green burlap and a dab of hot glue, fold over and cut off the ends.
And there you have it! SO easy! How cute would this flower be if it were added to a headband or made into a bracelet? Your possibilities are endless!

  1. Hello Rachel. I am wondering what width you used for the burlap ribbon? I am really excited to make this but I think the width might make all the different.

    Thanks,
    Alisa
