Call Me Mama Leisha Guest Post: Bat Frame

Don't you just love this time of year?  I do!  I love Halloween!  It's one of my favorite holidays.  I love to decorate my humble abode with witches and ghosts and pumpkins...oh my!  If you are looking for some spooky-fun and crazy-cute Halloween decor, the beloved Wood Connection is the place to go.

The project I put together for this guest post is so stinkin' cute, it will have you going "batty."  You will need scrapbook paper, ribbon, two bats, white wood glue, a frame, sparkly craft gems, black paint, and picture-hanging hooks.  ALL items can be found at the Wood Connection.  That's one-stop-shopping, crafters!

Step 1.)  Remove the backing and the glass from the frame.  Paint the frame and the bats black.  (I only painted the edges of my frame since I knew I would be covering the front with paper.)

Step 2.)  While the paint dries, get your paper ready.  I adore chevron print!  Unfortunately, the frame is too large for one sheet of scrapbook paper!  I wanted my pattern to line up perfectly on my frame, so I lined up several sheets of paper on my floor first.  I used a couple of pieces of tape to hold it together; forming one large piece of paper.

Step 3.)  When the frame is dry, turn it over and trace it onto the paper.  You will want to trace the inside of the frame too.  Cut it out.

Step 4.)  Using the Wood Connection's wood glue, or Mod Podge, glue the paper to the frame.

Step 5.)  Did you know that if you have a project requiring a hole, the Wood Connection can drill it for you?!  So nice!  I had them drill a hole through my bats.  Thread your ribbon (from the back) through each hole and knot it.

Step 6.)  Turn your frame over and attach your picture hooks.  A word to the wise:  You will be hanging your bats from these hooks.  Make sure you know where you want them before screwing them into the wood.  I experimented by taping my bats to my frame first, then held it to my wall to get an idea as to where and how they would hang.

Another note:  I suppose you could hot glue your ribbon instead of using the hooks.
Step 7.)  The fun part!  Attach your bats!  (I staggered mine.)  I also added the gems for eyes.

Step 8.)  All that's left is hanging it and enjoying it throughout your "bewitching" holiday!

TA-DA!  I'm thrilled with how this "bat-tastic" craft came together!   A big THANK YOU to the Wood Connection for allowing me this opportunity to guest post!  And of course, thank you for being one of my favorite "haunts!"  The Wood Connection has generously donated a $25 gift certificate to be given to one lucky "Mama Leisha" reader.  For details on how to enter the contest, please visit "She Calls Me Mama Leisha," at http://callmemamaleisha.blogspot.com.
 Happy Halloween and Happy Crafting!
