I just about squealed in delight when I saw that they were making frames now.
I have a minor obsession with these frames right now.
Usually online they can get pretty pricey!
But as always the Wood Connection has them at really decent prices!
I thought a little outside the box and wanted to make a door hanger with my frame.
I am just loving my very first decoration for the home! The red door that wasn't painted all that great.... not so much.

Hi! My name is Aleisha, but my hilarious and zany five-year-old occasionally calls me "Mama Leisha!" I am thrilled about guest posting for The Wood Connection today. I love The Wood Connection store as much as I love pots of gold, four leaf clovers, and Lucky Charms cereal. And since I'm Irish (okay, okay, only by marriage), I thought I would show you how to make a grand St. Patrick's Day craft. (No leprechauns required.) You'll need: --wood --vinyl --paint --sandpaper --paintbrush
Step #1: Paint your wood board a lovely shade of green. (The more likely it is to resemble the rolling hills of Ireland, the better!) Let it dry completely.

Step #2: Paint a single coat of white paint over the top. Let it dry completely.

Step #3: Using sandpaper, distress your board; focusing on sanding the white area. (And yes, I know I'm in desperate need of a manicure!)

Step #4: Apply your cute vinyl lettering...which can always be purchased at The Wood Connection!

Step #5: Paint over the whole thing, using that fantastic green color again. It's very important that you let the coat of paint dry completely!

Step #6: Here's the fun part! Gently and slowly peel off the vinyl lettering. (Going slow is important!) Using sandpaper again (and if you'd like to), distress the board.

Step #7: Dance a St. Patty's Day jig because your project is finished!

My camera does not do the lettering on my board justice. The reverse vinyl effect gives the lettering a "stenciled on" look, while painting the board green, then white, and then distressing it, creates an "old," artistic, faded-out look. It's way cooler than the Blarney Stone! I took a closeup picture of the lettering to give you a better idea of how the project turned out.

CRAFTING WITH HEART GUEST POST

Hi! I'm Cortney from Crafting With Heart, and I am so so so excited to be with you guys today on the Wood Connection! I am a full time student and I work full time, but I always can make time for crafts! I discovered the Wood Connection a couple of years ago and each month I love going to see what new decorations they have out. Right now they are featuring the St. Patrick's Day decorations. What I love about the Wood Connection is that they have so many different choices and you can either copy their ideas, or make it your own. I combined a couple of their projects to make my door hang.

I love to paint stripes on the bead board. The lines don't have to be perfect, sometimes the mistakes are what makes it your own!

The small clover is from a different project. I bought the dangles and used the clover dangle to add to this project. While I was there, I noticed that they had two St. Patrick's projects with different sayings. One was "Lucky in Love" and the other was "Keep Calm and Pinch On". Both sayings were so cute that I knew I wanted to add one to my project! You can also buy the little wooden heart at the Wood Connection.

Hey! It's Becky, one of the five Crafting Chicks. We have enjoyed working with The Wood Connection to make some fun things. Today I'm going to share my wood growth chart I made. I sure love it and so do my girls.

I had been looking for a great growth chart a few years ago, but couldn't find anything that would work for me. I love the vinyl ones, but don't want to leave it behind if we ever move. There are other cute fabric and wood charts out there, but the prices kept me away. Wood Connection to the rescue. This was my answer!

Here is what you will need:

a wooden board
paint
vinyl lines and numbers
wood letters for the name (you could also do vinyl if you wanted)
a ruler
pencil
scrapbook paper
Mod Podge

I found this 5'x2' wooden board at Wood Connection. It is really cute and has beveled edges. I painted each board and then began to measure. I wanted to start the chart at their birth height and then just go up from there.

I put the foot marks on first and then added my numbers to that. After those were on, I put the inch marks on. I added a few vinyl flowers.

Painted the letters and Mod Podged cute scrapbook paper on them to match their rooms. I inked the edges of the letters to give them some more depth.

I then put some hanging hardware on the back. Measured up the wall to the height that I had started the markings and voila. A fun growth chart for many memories and years to come!

Let's get this party started!!! I am Bridget from Bridgey Widgey and I am a party stylist, mom, and blogger. I always enjoy a good craft project, but especially when I can use it for my parties. As a party stylist I am always looking for different ways to decorate a party with out breaking the bank. I also love the idea of making something once but using it for party after party. This is why I am excited to be pairing up with The Wood Connection. The people at The Wood Connection probably thought I was crazy because I was a combination of a kid on Christmas morning mixed with a bargain shopper on black friday. I was going crazy with excitment! They have so many fun things to create at a killer price. I won't lie it was hard for me to settle on just one project but eventually I decided on their wood pendant flags. I chose these because it is perfect for those non-sewers and cost effective. You can get two banners out of one, or make one into a chalk board that I will show later in this post. The possibilities are endless! I loved this craft SO much because it didn't take a lot of time, yet it adds that punch of decor that takes the party to the next level.

So let's get started....

I am first going to show you how to create the chalk board banner.

To get the chalk board effect you will want to follow these steps:

Next, turn over your chalk board flags and follow these steps to get an additional banner on the reverse side.

Step 1: Trace the wood on the paper of your choice. My paper is all from The Wood Connection. This place is really a one stop shop!

Step 2. Using the wood glue they sell, apply a thin coat onto the wood and adhere the paper.

Step 3. Don't worry if you didn't cut it out exactly. You can use a razor blade to cut off the excess paper.

Step 4: Ink the edges. (optional)

Step 5: String the banner through the holes. I used bakers twine and added some colorful ribbon I got from The Wood Connection.

Step 6. Hang your banner. I like to use these command strips for easy set up and take down.

Now, I want to show you how versatile these banners are. I made this pink banner for a princess party I have coming up in April, but I wanted to use it now for Valentine decor. I used some magnates to easily attach and remove wood letters that I purchase at The Wood Connection for 89 cents.

All you have to do is paint, glue, and attach. Pretty easy right?

Want to know my favorite part besides that it is reversible? It stores up small and easy.

CRAFTING CHICKS GUEST POST

Hi, I'm Brooke! I'm one of the five Crafting Chicks and I'm happy to be guest posting here today at The Wood Connection blog! I love their products and I feel like a kid in a candy store every time I visit the store. :) Today I'm sharing what I did with the doll table and chairs set from The Wood Connection. The table sells for $15.00 and the chairs are $6.95 each. You can pick up these items at their store, they do not ship at this time.

I was excited to give my daughters this set for Christmas, so they could play with their dolls together. It was a big hit! It fits the 18 inch dolls perfectly (like the American Girl dolls) but my girls have used the table with their Barbies too. :) The fun thing is that they also got a big kid-sized table and chairs from their grandparents--white table and pink chairs--so I painted the doll version to match!

I started with the unfinished pieces of furniture and gave them a really good sanding to smooth out any rough edges. I primed all of the pieces with spray paint primer first. Then I spray painted the table in a glossy white and the chairs in a glossy pink. Here are a few spray painting tips:

Use primer first! Helps to even things out, helps the paint to stick better, and you end up using less paint in the long run.
Spray several LIGHT coats, letting each coat dry completely in between. This prevents drips and globs of paint everywhere.
You can also lightly sand in between coats to ensure a smooth finish.

I thought they were cute just painted! The nice thing about glossy paint is that it makes it easy to wipe down from those messy dolly tea parties. ;) The beauty of the unfinished wood set is that you can completely customize the colors to match any room! Plus this is significantly less expensive than buying a table and chairs at the store or online. It's such a fun project!

Next I decided to fancy things up a bit and make a mini fitted tablecloth and some mini chair covers. I'm sort of a beginner sewist (is that what you call it?!?) so I was looking for simple projects that would give me good practice! :) I found some cute fabric that was sort of Valentine-y (look closely, there are little hearts in the flowers) and had a lot of fun whipping up some doll-sized goodies!

I used a fitted tablecloth tutorial found at Smashed Peas & Carrots (I cut the fabric as a 16.5 inch square which includes seam allowances, just FYI) and added a fun pom-pom trim to the edges. For the chairs I followed the same tutorial, I just modified it by only doing two fitted corners. I added some ruffles to the edges of the chair covers (I love ruffles).

Just add your play food and your dolls and you're ready to go! It's so cute, I think I might play along too!

I have some more ideas for customizing the doll furniture:

Use stencils to add designs to the table and chairs
Add ribbon along the edges
Mod Podge some scrapbook paper on the tops and sides
Add decorative wood trim

Hi! I'm Amy from The Happy Scraps and I'm so excited to be back here again today visiting The Wood Connection blog! I LOVE The Wood Connection! If you've never been in, you should go check them out! Their projects are SO cute, fun and as easy as you want to make them anyone can do them! Today I'll be sharing these cute LOVE letters with you. The letter set is only $10.95.

To finish these letters, I started by painting the sides and back of the letters {black and pink} and using the wood glue they sell at The Wood Connection, gluing the paper to them, using this technique.

I wanted to do something a little different, so I decided to make this cute little banner to hang from the letters. I used my Cricut to cut the flags, hearts and letters.

Then I used bakers twine to string them all together!

I am Jamie, one of the 5 contributors from The Crafting Chicks. I am so excited to share my doll beds/bedding on the Wood Connection blog today!
Santa's bringing a set of Boy/Girls twins to our house on Christmas Eve! We love girl/boy twins at our house. My 2 and 5 year old little girls will be so excited to see these beds and new babies under our tree this year.
I wanted to get bigger doll beds (the ones that fit most sized babies/doll). And they do fit the American Girl Doll. When I called the Wood Connection, I was thrilled to find out they had unfinished wooden doll beds. I immediately had to grab two (for the twins).

I love the Scalloped headboards!
I spray painted mine white (using a paint and primer-satin finish). I wanted to keep it simple so I could have fun with the bedding. It was so easy to finish!
I found some adorable polka-dot, butterfly/flower and bird fabrics to mix. I wanted them to coordinate but one be for a boy and one for a girl. Having boy/girl twins that share a room, I have had to make both boy and girl decor work together.
The pillows are my favorite. I made simple pillowcases, but added cute ribbon and ric-rac.
The mini throw pillows were so fun to make...I used Nikkala's Felt Flower Tutorial to make the flower on my girl pillow. I made a felt bird for the boys to match his fabric. I {heart} felt!
The blankets were simple to make. I just made a double sided duvet...I used thick fleece inside. That way it looks cute folded down.
For the mattress, I found 1 inch foam at the craft store and cut it approx. 10 x 20 inches. I then made a slipcover for the foam mattress using the gingham material.
And to top it off, I added that really soft minky material...for a little throw at the bottom of each bed.
This was one of my favorite projects to make....I cannot wait for my little girls to see these!

RUSTIC WIRE ROSE TUTORIAL

Hi, I'm Amy from The Happy Scraps. I blog with my best friend Debbie about cute crafting projects, scrapbooking, and paper crafts. I'm so excited to be back here visiting The Wood Connection blog, to share another fun tutorial with you. I'm sharing a Rustic Wire Rose Tutorial with you today.

This is very easy to do, it just takes a few minutes, and some muscle. Start with getting your supplies together. You'll need a Stacking Block Tree {it's only $7.95} and a bundle of Rusty Twisted Wire {$1.79}. Head on over to The Wood Connection to get both of these. {And if you're anything like me, you'll end up with more fun projects to work on as well.} Start out by finishing your tree, and gluing it together {all but the star} so it's one piece to work with.

1. Start by wrapping your wire around your tree. You'll need a good amount of wire on both sides. I had about 2 1/2 feet on each side, plus what what wrapped around the back of the tree. So my wire was probably close to 6 feet long total. Make sure you pull it tight.
2. Twist the wire around the opposite wire and make sure it's good and tight.
3. Continue to twist. {I twisted counter-clockwise for mine.}
4. Keep a tight hold and keep twisting. It will start to get a little taller, before it starts getting wider.

As long as you keep it tight, it gets bigger and bigger while you twist. I found it helpful to use the sides of the tree to spin it while holding the wire.

1 & 2. When you are getting close to having the size that you want, you may need to hold your wire down close to the tree to help shape it.
3. Once you get the size you want, cut the wires and leave a little tail so you can make your leaves.
4. Try to cut your wires close to each other so your leaves will be close.

1. Use some wire/jewelry pliers to fold your wire for your leaves.
2. Enjoy your fun, easy to make, Rustic Rose on your tree.

You can also add a smaller one to your star at the top of the tree.

ACCORDION FLOWER TUTORIAL

Hello to all The Wood Connection blog readers! I'm Amy and I blog with my best friend, Debbie, over at The Happy Scraps. I'm so excited to be guest posting here today! I LOVE The Wood Connection, it is one of those stores that is hard for me to stay away from. :)

Today I'm going to share with you how to make an accordion flower for your Witch Boots. But before I do that, run over to The Wood Connection and pick up a pair of Witch Boots. They're only $4.95 {each}, hurry and get yours before they're gone! These accordion flowers are very simple and so fun to make. Lets get started!

Pin It

1. Cut a strip of paper. I cut mine at 3/4 in. by 12 in. Your finished sized flower will be a little more than double the width you cut.
2. Score your paper strip every 1/4 in. If you want a little more depth, you can score a little farther apart, just make sure it's even across your strip.
3. Accordion fold your paper for the entire length.
4. Glue the ends together.
5. You'll end up with a circle like this.
6. Flatten your paper on a flat surface and keep a hold of it.
7. Use some scrap cardstock to cut or punch out a small circle. Put some glue on the circle {I used hot glue}.
8. Then put it on the BACK of your accordion flower. Hold it in place long enough for your glue to set.
9. Glue a circle to the front of your accordion as well. Make sure it's centered.
10. Embellish the top of your flower with jewels, etc.
11. Adhere your fun accordion flower you made, to your cute Witch Boots!

These Witch Boots were so.much.fun to finish! I used the wood glue for the first time that The Wood Connection recommends, for adhering my paper, and it worked like a charm! And how fun are the eyelets?!

Tips for Shopping at The Wood Connection During Busy Season

o Everything in our store is cut by hand. Really! Although we are a small business we try our best to meet your needs. A quick review of the following facts will help acquaint you with our fast paced and somewhat crazy busy season.

o We do reserve the right to limit the quantity of items that you can buy off the sales floor. Because everything is hand cut, we have a limited supply; so to be fair to all of our customers we need to set limits. Our general rule is you cannot take more than 4 of any item off the shelf. On some occasions the limit is more restricted. This doesn’t mean you can’t have what you need; simply place an order. The good news is that when you place an order you can have as many as you want.

o Ordering is a really good thing for us and for YOUI! Generally the wait is anywhere from 1 -3 weeks depending on our current work load. Orders can be placed in the store or over the phone. You can order a few extra – just call us a couple of days before your pick up and let us know what you won’t need. You can pay for it when you place it or when you pick it up. Everything is conveniently boxed for a quick checkout. Remember that orders are not ready until 2:00 on their due date.

o We sell some things that are not manufactured here (i.e. glitter, paper, ribbon, jewels, hats, metal, etc.) Occasionally it is difficult for us to get as much as we need from the distributor and we run out of items. We do our best to avoid this but at times it is beyond our control. If you love something buy it when you see it!

o At times we have long check out lines. We ask you to please be patient and when it is your turn we will gladly provide you with our amazing customer service.

o Thanks for your business. Come in soon and shop ‘til you drop!

Demos will start every half hour.

Rachel and Allison will be on hand to show you how to make the most of our fun embellishments. Learn tricks for glitter, paper, edging, etc. They will also answer any other questions that you may have. Join us and save 10% on paper, glitter, paint, glue and spray from the hours of 11 – 1. We’ll have treats also!

AND... we'll be giving away two $15.00 gift certificates that day at the store!
